The Centre for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA Makedonska Kamenica got new premises in the centre of the city where, besides the headquarters of the organization, there will be a social club for persons with intellectual disability.
With support from the Municipality of Makedonska Kamenica, that gave the premises, and the Mine SASA, that donated equipment, on 17.9.2018 in Makedonska Kamenica, social club was opened for persons with intellectual disability. The Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Mila Carovska, the Mayor of Municipality of Makedonska Kamenica, Sonja Stamenkova, as well as representatives of the Republic Centre for Support of persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA, representatives of local and central government, parents of persons with intellectual disability and others were present at the opening.
Vasilka Dimoska MD, Secretary General of the Republic Centre for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA emphasised that the opening of these premises will provide friendly gatherings and possibilities for work for the parents, but most of all it will be a Social club where persons with intellectual disability will be able to come several times a week and together with volunteers from PORAKA Makedonska Kamenica to be actively involved in various types of activities. Vasilka Dimoska also highlighted “After so many years in Kamenica, social club for these persons is opened where they could be more active. Whether it will be creative activities, planning social activities or other activities involving the volunteers, persons and the parents, this is a big step forward for the Municipality of Makedonska Kamenica in terms of supporting persons with intellectual disability and their families, and thus in the direction of accomplishing their human rights as equal citizens of this society.
The Mayor of Municipality of Makedonska Kamenica, Sonja Stamenkova, expressed her satisfaction with the opening of this social club in the city. “The support from the Municipality of Makedonska Kamenica will continue unselfishly, and our previous cooperation with PORAKA Makedonska Kamenica will be further developed. This year, the municipality has allocated funds from its budget aimed for support, and I hope that soon this club will realize different workshops and projects”, Stamenkova said.
The same day, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy opened a day centre for persons with intellectual disability in Makedonska Kamenica. The day centre has more than 200 square meters and has a rehabilitation room. This day centre is opened and currently has 16 persons with intellectual disability as beneficiaries.
