Strengthening the capacities and programme activities of its social services – Day Centres for persons with intellectual disability over the age of 18 is one of the priority areas of the Republic Centre – PORAKA. In this regard, the Republic Centre – PORAKA is constantly working on improving and restructuring its programme for work in the Day Centres, following contemporary practices, adapted to the needs of the users and their families.
The restructuring of programmes for work in the social services arose from the need to place greater emphasis on the development and retention of practical skills and the independent living skills of the users. Strengthening practical skills is especially important for users who have lost their parents in the past period, in order to enable them to function more independently in their own home, with support from the extended family. At the same time, some of the users have also experienced a decline in their practical skills because of the pandemic and staying at home for longer periods of time.
As part of the programme activities for professional and methodological support and continuous improvement of the work of its social services, the Republic Centre – PORAKA organized and held a one-day workshop for the evaluation and improvement of the work of Day Centres. The workshop was held on 6th of June 2026, in the premises of Day Centre of the Republic Centre – PORAKA in Radovis, and all employees in the Republic Centre – PORAKA Day Centre network participated.
During the workshop, an overview of the results achieved with the introduction of the restructured programme for work in the Day Centres was made. Through active discussions, the participants exchanged experiences and shared the challenges they face in their daily work. The Republic Centre – PORAKA’s team, as well as all the others, provided suggestions for improving and advancing the contents and methods in the functioning of the Day Centres. Particular attention was paid to finding practical solutions for improving the support provided to the users in the Day Centres and their families.
The Republic Centre – PORAKA’s team will continue to provide support to the staff for the successful planning and implementation of programmes for work within its network of social services.
